Design Technology

At Bowsland Green we enjoy trying our hand at new things and developing new skills. Design technology is a favourite subject among the pupils as it allows them to use a wide range of skills to create something they have planned and designed.

Design Technology has three different strands to the subject which are designing, making and evaluating. They are all of equal value and although the favourite strand by far is the making strand, we ensure that our pupils are given time to design their product and to evaluate once it is complete. Design technology also includes food and textiles based activities and we are extremely lucky at Bowsland Green to have our own kitchen for teaching in.

Children use a wide range of materials within this subject. Sometimes there is a particular material that is used as a focus for teaching a specific skill such as cutting, joining, cooking, sewing, making switches or using pneumatics; pupils select the material they decide will be best for their design.
