World Book Day
On Thursday 1st March 2018, World Book Day was celebrated in schools up and down the country and Bowsland Green was no exception!
This year Team Bowsland went bigger and better than previous years with an array of exciting activities and events. All children and staff came dressed as their favourite character from a book and what a range of characters we had! Costumes included Mr and Mrs Twit, Harry Potter, Willy Wonka, Fantastic Mr Fox, a Gangsta Granny and even The Cat in The Hat!
The learning for the day was themed around books and authors and children across the school completed maths investigations about favourite books, authors and places to read as well as an opportunity to complete a free write in a genre of their choice. Throughout the day, children took part in a DEAR – Drop Everything And Read. When the bell sounded at different times throughout the day, all learning was paused and children read.
In the afternoon, there was a BIG BOWSLAND BOOK SWAP where children were able to bring a book into school to swap and the day was concluded with an assembly where children could share their costumes and learning from the day.
Have a look at the photos to see examples of our learning and all the fun we had!
Bowsland Green Family Reading Workshop
Tuesday 23rd of January 2018 saw families from Team Bowsland taking part in a reading workshop to help develop confidence and skill to support reading at home. Families were introduced to the two min components of reading and how the skill of reading is developed. There were practical activities and a chance for parents to practise some of the skills demonstrated.
