Lunch time is a key part of your child’s day, it is their time to rest and refuel their bodies whilst socialising with their peers. However, we are very aware for many children the sensory overload including the noise, the smell and the physical environment of the dinner hall can be overwhelming and make this time challenging.
We want to do as much as we can to make lunch time a more enjoyable time for all; our new ‘Lunch Club’ will enable this to happen! ‘The Lunch Club’ is an invite only club for children who have been identified by their class teachers as likely to benefit.
Your child will invite a friend to join them and will eat lunch in the Lower Key Stage Two area. Benefits of this club will include sitting at a table on a classroom chair, quiet music being played, opportunity to sit with more space and the development of personal responsibility, for example handing out cups of water for the group and clearing their own things away. The smaller number of pupils will also make this time more restful. After eating, the children will play with their other friends as usual, with the option of a quieter, supported game with the adults if they would like to take part.
The club will be led by Mrs Judges with support from Mrs Fazial and Miss Bird.
Children have been consulted in this progress and have made valid contributions to the responsibilities they have to make the club successful – ask your child and they may tell you more about it!
The club is not compulsory for your child, perhaps they would like to try it out and see how they feel? I hope you feel as excited as we do about this new club.
